Wednesday February 12th is the day our kindergarten gates are thrown open and whānau get the opportunity to experience te ao kindy for themselves. It’s a big part of our New Year marketing programme, and always stimulates a burst of website visits and a flurry of pre-enrolment forms.

Like all of Kidsfirst’s marketing activities, Open Day is just one element in a wider mix of ‘touchpoints’ along the journey of prospective whānau, each of which contributes to final enrolments or waitlist additions. Its impact isn’t always immediately apparent, but it does stimulate interest in our kindergartens and bring families one step closer to joining the Kidsfirst whānau.

Now’s the time to think about how you’ll manaaki anyone who comes along between 10am and 2pm, and make sure they feel part of our Kidsfirst whānau.

Here's a few tried and true hints:

  • Flags and footpath signs out

  • Children's welcome signs and balloons on the gate

  • Get visitors to sign in with an email address so you can thank them for coming in an email

  • A plan for staff so everyone knows what they're doing

  • Information to take away about kindy - FAQs and Brochures, a Stay and Play flyer

  • Use your postcards to make a time for a second visit
