With the prohibitive cost of resource consent hampering our ability to display large signs outside the kindergartens, we're always looking for new ways to get them ones that are hidden away but noticeable from the street.

The flags and footpath signs have been around for some time, but now there's a new tool in the visibility kit for those kindergartens most in need of help: eye-catching, colourful fence banners.

Phillipstown, Mathers Road and Opawa were the first off the rank for the banners, which made an immediate impact.

Opawa had two walk-ins the very next day, and the banner outside Kidsfirst Phillipstown has already created interest from current and prospective parents. Part of the success of the banners is that they are customised for the kindergartens they are promoting.

“They’ve definitely raised the profile of the kindys already." Jenny Pitama says. "We wanted something innovative to get our ideas out there and do the job our existing flags or signs can't."

Orders are already in for 40 more banners, which will be rolled out to kindergartens nominated based on need and suitability of the site.
