We’re so grateful for the work all of our kaiako are doing to keep everyone safe, while maintaining the connection and whakawhanaungatanga that is so integral to kindergarten.

You’ll see increased activity on our Facebook page and the Kidsfirst COVID Update site as this outbreak escalates, with a balance of messaging between what whānau need to do right now, how we are working to protect tamariki, whānau and communities, and highlighting the important role that kindergarten plays at times like these.

Our COVID Update site continues to grow in popularity as the Omicron outbreak intensifies, receiving more than a thousand visitors for a recent update. Most of our visitors have subscribed to the site for updates, with Facebook and the Kidsfirst site accounting for about the same number of visitors. Links in messages from Educa remains an important source of traffic for the site, but the numbers vary significantly from one kindergarten to the next – reinforcing the need to provide a mix of communications channels for those whānau not as digitally connected. Please encourage whānau to sign up to the site for general Kidsfirst COVID updates – and let them know you remain their primary source of information about Omicron and any impacts.

Across all our channels, we are working to simplify messaging as much as we can, but also maintain the warmth and sense of safety that is such a hallmark of Kidsfirst.

Our ‘Kindy Safe’ theming covers off the basics

And we are so grateful to the kaiako who have taken the time to record messaging to reassure whānau that kindergarten is a safe place for tamariki – he ihu oneone koutou, you’re true superstars.
