Kia ora koutou, I hope you all had a restful Easter break with your whānau.
We're nearly at the end of term and what a blockbuster it’s been for many of our kindergartens, with all kinds of celebrations happening across the network. We've had milestone birthdays from a first birthday at East Rolleston to the 112th at Hargest Crescent! We've had Holi, Sea Week, the Lunar New Year and more – all opportunities to showcase Whakaute and bring communities through our gates and into the wonderful Te Ao Kindy.
As we enter the Autumn months, it's also time to reflect on how things are going in terms of waitlist and enrolment numbers. The first term is always pivotal in terms of applications, and the 2024 year has been no different. Find out more about our New Year campaign and how we're doing here.
It's great to see so many kindergartens offering Stay and Play this term, I'll be requesting your term two plans very shortly. It can be a slow burner, but it does bring results. If your Stay and Play needs a boost, try offering an invitation to the local Playcentre or music group. Who can resist an opportunity to come and play at kindy?
Some of our kindergartens are still working hard to bring their numbers up – I see firsthand, and appreciate the effort that these teams put in to connect with their communities and get families through the gate. Your Open Days (recently, Papanui and Lady May), fundraisers, community contacts, posters, and ads don’t always show impact right away, but every bit helps.
Our very first Uara celebrations will be happening at this year's AGM, when we'll be celebrating Ngā Whetu (the Stars) for going above and beyond in the wonderful work they do every day. Find out how you can make a nomination here. Entries close on Friday the 26th of April.
Finally, I wish you all a fantastic term break, including the Head Teacher's Hui, and Me Ako Tonu – both of which look absolutely incredible! Enjoy your time off, rest, relax and be safe.
Ka kite anō,
Jen
