Kidsfirst East Rolleston kindergarten isn’t fully built yet, but it’s already proving popular with whānau, with solid enrolments, and a healthy waitlist.

Landscaping and decorating are underway, and preparations are being made. Soon, the kindergarten will be filled with excited tamariki and their whānau, getting ready for day one. As excitement grows, so too does the building site, as well as the roll – and the kindergarten is nearly ready.

There’s a growing need for quality early childhood education in the area, and as a result much interest in the kindergarten, which uses the modular units from the old Kidsfirst Glacier Country.

The new teaching team – Head Teacher Evie Hetherton, Kidsfirst Riccarton’s Kymaia Slater, and Isla Connolly, from Kidsfirst Ilam – are busy unpacking resources and getting ready to welcome families.

Evie says she can’t wait to open the doors.

“I am super excited about the New Year, and a new beginning.”

Evie says that the prospect of leading the new kindergarten is rewarding, and constantly affirming. It’s a big job, but she doesn’t see it as overwhelming.

“I think that’s because Kidsfirst is so well-respected and renowned,” Evie says. “I have felt very supported by the Head Office team, especially the Professional Leaders.”

Evie is most excited to get involved in a new community, and to start something new.

“I think that because people are so incredibly welcoming anyway that there will just be this sense of excitement for everyone.”
