Celebrating our feedback

We love to celebrate the work of our kaiako, and it’s even better when we hear it from the people who matter most – whānau.

In addition to the feedback teams get every day, our kindergartens receive regular feedback through a number of different channels – directly through emails, via Facebook messages and ratings, and through individual Google My Business kindergarten profiles. Posts featuring kaiako also regularly receive positive comments for individuals. We know from web statistics that whānau are increasingly turning to these platforms to share their experiences and research early childhood education options.

Most of the comments we receive are positive, and there are always things to learn from the ones that are not.

It’s not always easy to ask whānau to leave a review, but it’s becoming such a normal part of people’s customer experience, many will see it as part of supporting their kindergarten, and having a way to express thanks.

Kidsfirst Selwyn Street Head Teacher, Gemma Wilson, says her families were happy to oblige – and she found some simple ways to ask.

“After the cluster meetings where it was suggested that reviews were a great way to get feedback, we just popped a note on our notice board and up on Educa kindly asking whānau if they wouldn’t mind doing it.”

“Parents want to share the good stuff that is happening, they often just don’t know how or where.”

Once you ask one family, it becomes easier to spread the word around.

“A good thing to do is to approach individual families – the ones you feel the most confident with, and the ones that you have the best relationships with – and once you’ve spoken to them, and got some more confidence asking, the rest will just flow on from there.”

With so many whānau moving on at the end of Term 4, and so many looking at Kidsfirst as an option over the holiday season, now is the perfect time to get the word out. We’ll respond to new ones within a few days, but are currently working through a backlog from earlier in the year when we began focusing on this area more intensely, we promise we’ll get to it soon!

A snapshot of recent feedback

This past parent from Kidsfirst Rutland Street sent us a message through our Facebook page, and it shows the influence that kindergarten has, beyond the day-to-day, and long after they have left:

Here are a few of our recent Google reviews, too, to give you a taste of the feedback whānau have been sharing:
