Fantastic work from Kidsfirst Sumner on creating a Treaty of Care for their kindergarten and creating an event to honour the soft toys that helped children through the lockdown.

We loved their idea of a Teddy Bear's Picnic so much, we've stolen it, and we're working on

putting together an event to run across the network that we can promote through all our channels. We're just working out what is possible, in terms of attendee numbers, given COVID-19 restrictions. Stay tuned for more!

Here's what Kidsfirst Sumner got up to in their first week back at kindy.

Our tamariki have been very interested in sharing their knowledge around COVID19. So in response to this week’s plan on wellbeing, we held a hui to seek the children’s thoughts about COVID19 and how it impacted them and their whānau. These are some of their ideas: “You know you can’t leave New Zealand right now.” “There is one person in Brisbane with Coronavirus” “You can go to Okains Bay if you do social distancing.” “Do I have enough social distancing around me?” “We need hand sanitise” “That’s how we keep ourself safe from germs.” We are developing a new Treaty of Care for our Kindergarten whānau that empowers children to take responsibility for their own and others wellbeing. We also plan to hold a Teddy Bears picnic (post level 2) to recognise the contributions that our soft toys had during rahui.
